© Richard Eastwood 2022

Richard was born in West Yorkshire and graduated in Fine Art (painting) from Chelsea School of Art in 1974. Since then, he has worked full time as a painter, scenic artist, senior lecturer in drawing and scenic construction and a maker.

As a painter his real concerns are with the formal elements of picture making - line, colour, tone, texture, form and composition. His paintings are carefully constructed images with an awareness of history and continuity. He has a keen sense of his place in time and its influence on his work. Themes and obsessions are revisited over time and as a result the works themselves create their own history and archaeology. Repeat motifs from a semiographic alphabet, subconsciously evolved over many years, embed themselves in the paintings to create visual cues in an attempt to convey ideas without words.
